Frequently Asked Questions

I have an existing cosmetic tattoo that I would like fixed from another tattooist.

We prioritise an initial ‘consultation only’ appointment for all cosmetic tattoos you would like fixed. This way, we can understand your needs and ensure the best possible outcome for your tattoo correction.

Your technician will work with you to select the appropriate colour and shape that complement your natural features and desired look.

A cosmetic tattoo, also known as permanent makeup or micropigmentation, is a procedure where pigments are implanted into the skin to enhance features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips.

Pain levels vary from person to person however it is a very mild pain . A topical anaesthetic is usually applied to minimise discomfort during the procedure.

No, it is not recommended to get cosmetic tattoos, such as permanent makeup or microblading, while pregnant or breastfeeding due to the risks of infection, potential changes in skin texture and elasticity caused by hormonal fluctuations, and the unknown effects of tattoo ink on breastmilk.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and blood-thinning medications for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Make sure your skin is clean and free of makeup.

You should wait 2-4 weeks after a chemical peel. Both procedures significantly impact the skin, and combining them can increase the risk of irritation, infection, and suboptimal healing. It’s advisable to wait at least a few weeks between these treatments to allow your skin adequate time to heal and recover fully from each procedure.

When planning both injectables and cosmetic tattooing, we advise waiting at least 2 weeks after receiving injectables like Botox or dermal fillers before undergoing a cosmetic tattoo procedure. This allows sufficient time for the injectables to settle and for any potential swelling or bruising to subside.

Conversely, after getting a cosmetic tattoo, you should wait at least 2-4 weeks before having injectables to ensure that the tattooed area has healed completely, reducing the risk of infection or irritation.

Suppose you plan to have laser treatments before cosmetic tattooing. In that case, it is best to wait at least 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment until your skin fully heals and recovers from any redness, swelling, or sensitivity caused by the laser.

After your cosmetic tattooing, it is recommended that you let your IPL / Laser therapist know that you have had cosmetic tattooing and avoid the area of cosmetic tattoo pigmentation to avoid fading.

  1. Keep it Clean: Clean the tattoo area with mild, fragrance-free soap and water. Pat dry with a clean towel.
  2. Avoid Touching: Refrain from touching the tattooed area with your hands to prevent infection.
  3. Apply Bepanthen Tattoo or AFter Gel provided by us: To keep the area moisturised, use an ointment or healing balm recommended by your tattoo artist. Apply it sparingly.
  4. Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the tattooed area out of direct sunlight. Once fully healed, wear a hat or use a high-SPF sunscreen if you need to go outside.
  5. No Makeup: Avoid applying makeup to the tattooed area until it has fully healed, which can take up to 7-10 days.
  6. Avoid Water Exposure: Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and long showers that can soak the tattooed area.
  7. Do Not Pick: Refrain from picking any scabs or flakes that form during healing to prevent scarring and colour loss.
  8. Follow Up: Attend any follow-up appointments with your cosmetic tattoo artist to ensure the tattoo is healing correctly and addressing any touch-ups that may be needed.
  9. Stay Hydrated: Maintain proper hydration and a balanced diet to support overall skin health and avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  1. Aspirin and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs): Avoid pain relievers like aspirin, ibuprofen and warfarin, as they can thin the blood.
  2. Fish Oil/Omega-3 Supplements: These can also thin the blood, so it’s advisable to stop taking them a few days before and after the procedure.
  3. Herbal Supplements: Supplements like garlic, ginkgo biloba, and ginger can affect blood clotting and should be avoided.

If you have diabetes and are considering getting a cosmetic tattoo, it is crucial to first consult with your healthcare provider. They can assess your overall health and blood sugar control and determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Ensure that your diabetes is well-managed and that your blood sugar levels are stable, as high blood sugar can impair healing and increase the risk of infection. Following pre-procedure instructions from your healthcare provider and the tattoo artist is essential, and it may include specific medication and skin preparation guidelines.

If you have an active cold sore or herpes simplex virus, postponing your cosmetic tattoo appointment until the sore has fully healed is generally advised. The herpes simplex virus can spread during the procedure, potentially infecting the tattooed area and complicating the healing process. Additionally, cold sores can cause additional irritation and inflammation, leading to a delayed and more problematic healing process. Performing a cosmetic tattoo on skin affected by a cold sore can also result in uneven application and poor aesthetic outcomes.

Before proceeding with a cosmetic tattoo, it’s essential to consult your oncologist or healthcare provider, as radiation or chemotherapy can affect your body’s healing ability and increase the risk of infection.

Wait at least 7-10 days after getting a cosmetic tattoo before engaging in strenuous activities. This period allows the initial healing process to take place and reduces the risk of complications such as infection or irritation. During this phase, excessive sweating can affect the tattooed area, potentially causing ink loss or increasing the risk of infection, so it’s best to avoid high-intensity workouts that lead to heavy sweating.

If you have sensitive skin and experience frequent dermatitis/eczema breakouts, it’s crucial to consult a dermatologist to assess your skin’s condition and determine if the procedure suits you. Request a patch test from your cosmetic tattoo artist to check for any adverse reactions, and choose an experienced artist who has worked with clients with sensitive skin and dermatitis. Follow a strict aftercare regimen using gentle, fragrance-free products as your dermatologist and tattoo artist recommended. Additionally, schedule the procedure when your dermatitis is well-controlled and not actively flaring up to reduce the risk of complications.

After undergoing a cosmetic tattoo procedure, such as permanent makeup or microblading, you must follow the specific aftercare guidelines provided by WOW LASH to ensure proper healing and optimal results is essential. For the first week, avoid using skincare products containing active ingredients like retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and alcohol, which can irritate. Clean the tattoo area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and hydrate it with a recommended ointment or gentle moisturiser. Wear a hat to protect the tattoo area from direct sun exposure, or apply high-SPF sunscreen once the initial healing phase (7-10 days) is over. Additionally, refrain from using makeup directly on the treated area until it is fully healed to prevent infection and irritation.
